school to support the creation of a summary of research based techniques to ensure that challenge is
weaved into the barebones of lesson planning; something to oil one of the cogs on that magical conveyor
belt from factory to fireplace!
Carol Singing
In the last couple of weeks, the leaders of English and Maths from across the Trust have met virtually to
share experiences, develop practice and collaborate on curriculum. There wasn’t any carol singing but
plenty of creativity. In the English meeting, everyone participated in some creative writing with a link to using
metacognition in our teaching and in the maths meeting, a nativity donkey made an appearance in order to
introduce the importance of knowing when, how and why to use
manipulatives to support student learning in the classroom.

This time last year, it definitely would have seemed like a bad cracker
joke if someone had predicted that I would now have 16 GCSE
English revision videos on YouTube! I’ve learned a lot from doing these
and it’s still a nerve wracking feeling to watch one ‘go live’ and hope it
won’t be met by too many ‘boos and hisses’ in the form of a thumbs
down response. The cheers and encores do make it worthwhile
though.
