SUMMARY OF THE SCHOOLS WHITE PAPER
On 28th March 2022 the Department for Education published a Schools White
Paper called Opportunity for all: strong schools with great teachers for
your child.
This is an at-a-glance guide to the newly announced policies it
contains, drawn from the paper’s four chapters:
1. An excellent teacher for every child
2. Delivering high standards of curriculum, behaviour and
attendance
3. Targeted support for every child who needs it
4. A stronger and fairer school system
TWO ‘NATIONAL AMBITIONS’
The government has set two national ambitions for 2030:
1. 90% of primary school children to achieve the expected
standard in reading, writing and Maths, and the
percentage of children meeting the expected standard in
the worst performing areas will have increased by a third.
2. In secondary schools, the national GCSE average grade
in both English language and in Maths will increase from
4.5 to 5.
MESSAGE FROM TIM GILSON, CEO
This is always a slightly crazy time in schools with all the emotions
of leavers and the pressure of exams. All our schools have been
telling lovely stories of their leavers’ celebrations and the calm,
positive start to the exam period. This is such a challenging time for
our examination officers who do such remarkable work making sure
all the regulations are followed, the exams run smoothly and the
invigilators are all deployed - we are very lucky to have such great
teams in all our schools.
It has been brilliant to hear about the incredible array of
extracurricular and enrichment activities that staff have organised
and to see the huge take up by our students. They are very
fortunate to attend our schools and have such caring and excellent
staff working so hard for them.
This term’s Argus contains an amazing range of stories about how
creative and talented our colleagues are when they are not working
flat out in school - I hope you enjoy reading about what they get up
to!
I am so looking forward to our Trust day when we will all get to meet
face to face – it does begin to feel like we are in a post
COVID world.
I hope you all have a lovely May half term break and
enjoy the Jubilee!
